AL-SULTAN Molasses was first produced in Jordan in 1984 to become the first brand of Molasses which produced outside Egypt, which is considered the founder of Molasses. The idea was born with EASTERN TOBACCO & MOLASSES CO.'s general manager Mr. TALAT MARIE who visited Egypt regularly to manage the company's business relations with various Molasses producers and with the Eastern Company, the cigarettes franchiser in Egypt.
During the early 80's, Jordan was enjoying a strong boom in the real estate and construction sectors, which forced the Jordanian authorities to allow thousands of Egyptian workers to come to Jordan to serve these sectors. Those workers used to smoke Molasses in their home country, which helped provide a strong demand for Molasses in Jordan. During that period, Mr. MARIE started developing the first Molasses brand, outside Egypt, under the name of AL-SULTAN Molasses, and that was the beginning of the successful story of Molasses in Jordan.
In the first few years, only Egyptian workers smoked Molasses which was manufactured from the mixture of tobacco & black molasses.
In 1989 and after the increase in number of Jordanians smoking Molasses, customers complained that the Egyptian Molasses flavor was too strong and the taste must be changed. Based on this and using his long experience in the Tobacco manufacturing business, Mr. MARIE, started working on developing a new blend which contains a blond French tobacco mixed with various natural flavors starting with apple and strawberry. After many experiments, EASTERN TOBACCO & MOLASSES CO. became the first company to introduce this type of flavored Molasses to the world.
That is how AL-SULTAN Molasses story started.
